Green Bay Packers 2024 Season Preview
By: Michael Higgins
The Green Bay Packers pressed fast forward on their rebuild and have seemingly become a contender in the NFC. As one of the youngest teams in the league, they have found a way to build almost entirely through the draft. They are incredibly deep at every offensive position and their defense is competitive with other top NFC defenses.
After surprisingly making the playoffs and upsetting the Cowboys, they should be viewed as a real threat in the conference.
The team had to part ways with fan favorite RB Aaron Jones. Releasing him allowed them more flexibility to build the backfield they wanted. Safeties Jonathan Owens, Rudy Ford, and Darnell Savage signed elsewhere while IOL Jon Runyan also left in free agency.
Being such a young team means they have a certain amount of cap flexibility, and they spared no expense to make the roster even better this offseason.
To replace Aaron Jones, the Packers brought in former Raiders’ RB Josh Jacobs. To make up for the loss of 3 safeties, the team also brought in SAF Xavier McKinney on a 4-year deal. Green Bay also did well to attack their positions of need in the draft. They took Arizona OT Jordan Morgan in the first round. Out of college, Morgan projected more as a guard, and all reports indicate that he will be starting at guard for the Packers this season. They also selected impact players in LB Edgerrin Cooper, SAF Javon Bullard, RB Marshawn Lloyd, and safeties Evan Williams and Kitan Oladapo.
The NFL only cares about money so for some reason the Packers start the season in a game exclusively on Peacock on a Friday in Philadelphia. They have their home opener the following week against the Colts before playing the Titans on the road and hosting the Vikings to end September. I have the Packers penciled in at 3-1 to start the year.
The team travels to Los Angeles to take on the Rams for a Week 5 matchup, then they host the Cardinals and Texans in back-to-back weeks, and end October against the Jaguars in Florida. Green Bay will once again go 3-1 in October.
They host the Lions, followed by a Week 10 bye, travel to play the Bears, host the 49ers, and host the Dolphins on the night of Thanksgiving. The Packers will go 2-2 in November.
The team starts November in the Motor City on Thursday Night Football against the Lions, then travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks, host the Saints for Monday Night Football, travel to Minnesota, and close out the season at home against the Bears. The Packers will go 3-2 in this final stretch of the season.
I have the Packers finishing the 2024 season with an 11-6 record. In my opinion, this will not be good enough to win the division with the Lions still on the prowl. However, I do think the Packers can make some noise in the postseason.
2023 Record: 9-8
2024 Prediction: 11-6
