Kansas City Chiefs 2024 Season Preview
By: Michael Higgins
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off the heels of back-to-back Super Bowl victories. A dynasty started right when the Patriots’ dynasty came to a close, the question is now whether or not they will be able to replace key players who leave the roster while still being contenders.
A part of being a dynasty is having players who need to get paid. L’Jarius Sneed was an expensive cornerback that the front office decided they needed to move on from. Sneed was traded to the Titans after being franchise tagged. Aside from Sneed, Kansas City also said goodbye to contributors OT Donovan Smith, P Tommy Townsend, SAF Mike Edwards, LB Willie Gay, and WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
The Chiefs, pressed against the cap, were still able to acquire valuable pieces that fit their scheme quite well. The most notable addition is WR Hollywood Brown. Brown goes nicely with Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy to provide plenty of speed all over the field. They also signed former Rugby star, Louis Rees-Zammit, to be a depth running back.
In the draft, they attacked the offensive side of the ball to continue building around Pat Mahomes. They took WR Xavier Worthy, OT Kingsley Suamataia, and TE Jared Wiley in the first three rounds. Another notable pick was Washington State SAF Jaden Hicks.
Even with the losses and the uncertainty they faced going into the offseason, the Chiefs look poised for another great season with a chance to achieve a three-peat.
Kansas City starts the year at home for the first game of the NFL’s schedule against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football. They stay in Kansas City to host the Bengals, then take a two-week road trip to face the Falcons and Chargers. The Chiefs start the season 3-1.
They host the Saints for a Week 5 rendition of Monday Night Football before an early Week 6 bye. They then have a west coast road trip to face the 49ers and the Raiders. Kansas City goes 2-1 in October.
The team opens up November on Monday Night Football against the Buccaneers, then host the Broncos, travel to Buffalo and Carolina, and close out a busy month at home against the Raiders. The Chiefs go 4-1 in November.
They play at home against the Chargers for Week 14, travel to play the Browns, take on the Texans at home, play the Steelers on the road, and finish the season on the road against the Broncos. The Chiefs go 4-1 in this final stretch.
I have the Kansas City Chiefs going 13-4 in 2024, yet another successful regular season that will launch them to Super Bowl contention and potentially a first-round bye. If they stay healthy, there is no reason why they should not meet these expectations or even exceed them.
2023 Record: 11-6
2024 Record: 13-4
