New York Giants 2024 Season Preview

The New York Giants had a playoff appearance in the first season under HC Brian Daboll in 2022. It looked like he could potentially unlock QB Daniel Jones and the rest of that offense. However, enough time has passed since then to question if 2022 was just a flash in the pan. Daniel Jones capitalized on a decent year and got paid big time. The team is stuck with a quarterback that holds their offense back because they paid him prematurely. Additionally, they haven’t done well enough to build a team around him that can even make up for his poor play. This past offseason was no different, either. The Giants parted ways with a few players that have made an impact in recent years. WR Sterling Shepard, LB Jihad Ward, DL A’Shawn Robinson, SAF Xavier Mckinney, and RB Saquon Barkley all signed elsewhere this offseason.

While losing all of these key pieces, the Giants did not embrace a full rebuild. They traded for and took on a contract extension for EDGE Brian Burns. They also brought in RB Devin Singletary, IOL Austin Schlottman, OT Jermaine Eluemunor, and IOL Jon Runyan on multi-year deals.

In the draft, they got guys such as WR Malik Nabers and SAF Tyler Nubin. These were the only picks that I thought they did decently on.

The roster has been depleted, especially on the offensive side of the ball. When Daniel Jones can’t get the ball to Nabers or Wan’Dale Robinson, they won’t be able to fall back on a Saquon Barkley, instead they have Singletary.

The Giants start the season at home against the Vikings before a two-game road trip which includes the Commanders and the Browns. They then come home to play the Cowboys for a Week 4 Thursday Night Football matchup. The Giants go 2-2 in September.

October sees New York go on the road to Seattle for a game against the Seahawks before coming home for two games against the Bengals and the Eagles. They go back on the road for Monday Night Football against the Steelers in Week 8. The Giants go 1-3 in October.

The Giants play host to the Commanders and the Panthers before a Week 11 bye, then host the Buccaneers, and finish the month on Thanksgiving against the Cowboys in Dallas. The Giants go 1-3 in November.

They host the Saints and Ravens to start December, then go on the road to play the Falcons, back at home to take on the Colts, and finally finish the season in Philadelphia to play the Eagles in a game that could end up being ever so important to the opponent. The Giants go 1-4 in this last stretch of games.

I have the New York Giants going 5-12 in 2024. This record would certainly indicate that there either needs to be a change in leadership or in the quarterback. Their problem will be replacing a $40M/year contract with a bad rookie QB class.

2023 Record: 6-11

2024 Prediction: 5-12
