Seattle Seahawks 2024 Season Preview

The Seattle Seahawks seemingly struck gold when they entrusted longtime journeyman QB Geno Smith with the keys to their offense. Ever since Smith took over, the Seahawks have been perennial playoff contenders. Last season, it looked as if the new era of football passed Head Coach Pete Carroll by in a flash. For the best, Carroll and the organization agreed that he was no longer a good fit for the position. Seattle brought in former Ravens’ DC Mike McDonald to fill the role. McDonald is one of the best defensive minds in the sport and should be able to get the most from that talented defense.

Aside from Carroll, the Seahawks also parted ways with SAF Jamal Adams, LB Jordyn Brooks, SAF Quandre Diggs, LB Bobby Wagner, and TEs Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson. Bobby Wagner was an extreme liability in coverage in 2023, so moving on from him is a guaranteed upgrade.

In free agency, the Seahawks added DB Rayshawn Jenkins, LB Jerome Baker, OT George Fant, C Connor Williams, LB Tyrel Dodson, and IOL Laken Tomlinson.

In the draft, they took DT Byron Murphy in the 1st round. Other picks I liked include IOL Christian Haynes, CB DJ James, and CB Nehemiah Pritchett.

The Seahawks start the season at home against the Broncos, go on the road to face the Patriots, back home against the Dolphins, and head east to play the Lions in Detroit on Monday Night Football. The Seahawks start the season 2-2.

They kick off October at home against the Giants and then the 49ers on Thursday Night Football in Week 6. They go back on the road to face the Falcons before returning home to host the Bills. The Seahawks go 2-2 in October.

They host the Rams in Week 9 before a Week 10 bye. They go on the road to face the 49ers and return home to play the Cardinals to end November. I have the Seahawks going 2-1 in November.

In December, they have two straight road games against the Jets and Cardinals before returning home for two contests against the Packers and Vikings. They end their season with two more road games against the Bears and Rams. The Seahawks will go 3-3 in this final stretch of games.

I have the Seahawks going 9-8 in 2024. This would be the same record as last year. With a new coach in the mix and a team in transition, 9-8 and a chance at a playoff berth is a great season.

2023 Record: 9-8

2024 Prediction: 9-8
