Tennessee Titans 2024 Season Preview
By: Michael Higgins
For the first time in six seasons, the Tennessee Titans will not be led by HC Mike Vrabel. The front office did a poor job of giving Vrabel a competitive roster the last few years and Vrabel was a good enough coach to lead them to mediocrity. Brian Callahan will take over as the new Head Coach.
Not only did they lose Vrabel, but they lost some dogs. LB Azeez Al-Shaair, DL Denico Autry, OT Andre Dillard, CB Sean Murphy-Bunting, and RB Derrick Henry are all on different teams now. They seemingly want to go younger in the WIll Levis era and this offseason was the first step in that direction.
The Titans shored up their secondary by trading a bag of chips to the Chiefs in exchange for CB L’Jarius Sneed. Having Sneed on the Boundary with Roger MCCreary in the slot will provide for some great man coverage.
In free agency, they signed some BIG names. WR Calvin Ridley, C Lloyd Cushenberry, CB Chidobe Awuzie, RB Tony Pollard, and LB Kenneth Murray all signed multi-year deals. DL Sebastian Joseph-Day, SAFs Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams, and WR Tyler Boyd signed one-year contracts.
The Titans start the season on the road against the new-look Chicago Bears, then come back home to play the Jets and Packers in back-to-back weeks. To end September, they go to South Beach to play the Dolphins. The Titans start the season 1-3.
They have an unfortunate bye in Week 5, host the Colts, travel north to play the Bills, and then to the Motor City to play the Lions. The Titans go 0-3 in October.
Tennessee hosts the Patriots, travel to play the Chargers on the road, come back to host the Vikings, and then go take on the Texans in Houston. The Titans go 2-2 in November.
They start December in DC against the Commanders, go back home to host the Jaguars and then the Bengals, have a two-game road trip against the Colts and Jaguars, and finish the season at home against the Texans. I have the Titans going 3-3 to close the season out.
The Titans going 6-11 in 2024 may not sound promising, but it is impossible to expect anything more from a team in such a heavy transition who missed the playoffs last season.
2023 Record: 6-11
2024 Prediction: 6-11
