Anton Harrison Scouting Report
By: Michael Higgins
School: Oklahoma (Sophomore)
Position: OT
HT: 6’5
WT: 309
Sideline Prospect Ranking: #49
Anton Harrison was a 4-star recruit out of Washington D.C. and could practically choose wherever he wanted to go to college, and so he chose Oklahoma. Harrison has been a starter for the Sooners at the Left Tackle spot for both of the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Only being a full-time starter for two seasons and only being on campus for three, Anton Harrison still has plenty of untapped potential and is one of the more raw offensive line prospects in this year’s draft.
Harrison has modest measurable sun terms of length, but he has a decent athletic profile paired with great size for an Offensive Tackle. The athletic profile is on full display when you see him move from the first to second level of the defense. He is a fast runner when working in open space and is always looking to take on a new blocking assignment. Harrison has a powerful lower half and excellent grip strength that allows him to latch onto rushers and push them back, effectively knocking them off their rush. He never stops moving his legs and can simply outworks opponents. Harrison is extremely effective in run protection where he is allowed to eliminate rushers and work up field with the ball carrier. His run protection is a consistent positive in his game, he excels in it. In pass protection, there is certainly a lot of ability there for Harrison to succeed as a top pass protector in the league, he just needs to find consistency in that area of his game. His larger and dense frame combined with a high motor on every play makes it easy for him to complete blocking assignments through the whistle. It is methodical how Harrison is able to effortlessly move defenders backwards at the line of scrimmage. Due to the already talked about large frame that Harrison possesses, he can absorb most power rushes that he sees and does a good job planting his feet to build himself a solid base. Harrison has quick, violent, and efficient hands that he gets into the defender’s chest and knocks them off their rush by a step or two to gain an edge in the set.
Anton Harrison needs to find more consistency in pass protection. He has, at best, average footwork for a tackle. This footwork can lead to rushers beating him on either shoulder. With that being said, Harrison is more susceptible to getting best on the inside shoulder and allows rushers to penetrate the B gap. Harrison does better against bigger edge rushers who rely more on power, rather than the speed and finesse rushers who use a variety of stunts to get to the backfield. He struggles against the quicker linemen due to his lack of solid footwork.
Anton Harrison is, without a doubt, a top offensive line prospect in this draft. He has a great frame for the position and uses it well. All he needs to do is improve upon his footwork and find more consistency in pass protection. If he is able to improve those areas of his game, he can be an elite level player in the NFL.
