Background: Alfred Collins is a former consensus 5-star defensive lineman out of Bastrop, Texas. He was a top 50 player in the class and a top 5 player in Texas. Collins played for Cedar Creek High School. Collins was named an all-district edge rusher three times, an all-state member, and an All-American selection as a senior. He was the District Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2019. He totaled an eye-popping 74 tackles for loss. After his senior season, Alfred was selected to play in the 2020 All-American Bowl. Alfred Collins chose to remain close to home and play for the Texas Longhorns over schools such as Notre Dame, Penn State, and Texas A&M.
College: Collins immediately became an impact defensive lineman as a part of a talented rotation. For the first three years of his career, he remained a rotational piece with starts sprinkled in. In 2023, Collins saw an increased role, starting 6 of the team’s 14 games. He was an All-Big 12 honorable mention that season, as well. In 2024, Collins had his best statistical season with 5 TFLs and a sack. Every year that Collins has been at Texas, he has also been on the Academic Honor Roll.
Strengths: Alfred Collins is a stout run defender at the 1 tech position. Collins possesses the measurables and the frame that is desired out of a 1 tech in the NFL. His size allows him to patrol multiple gaps at once. He has 34 5/8 inch arms that allow him to clog multiple lanes. He has light feet with good lateral agility for his size. Collins has a strong anchor in the run game, preventing offensive linemen from climbing to the second level and keeping his linebackers clean. He does not get displaced or moved by double teams. Collins is able to maintain that gap integrity no matter the assignment. Alfred Collins provides more pass rush upside than others at his size or position. Collins has a bag of pass rushing moves that he occasionally uses. He can line up at the 5 tech on certain pass rush reps, but he is most comfortable using his bull rush on the interior.
Weaknesses: Alfred Collins is not an explosive athlete and he has certain limitations. He does not utilize his size to explode into his assignment’s pads. His pass rushing repertoire is expanding but he has yet to make his moves consistently effective. At times it seems as though he is spamming pass rush moves in Madden and hoping for the best. He needs to be more strategic about the moves he takes and how he wants to win. Collins shows a tendency to get winded on a long drive. He will need to have more limited usage on obvious passing downs.
Conclusion: Alfred Collins is a prototypical run stuffer on the interior. He alters how an opponent runs the football and takes away the gaps between the tackles. Collins needs to refine his skills as a pass rusher in order to become a more three dimensional player.
