Background: Amarius Mims was a consensus 5-star offensive tackle from Cochran, Georgia. He was the highest rated player out of the state of Georgia in the 2021 class while also being a top-3 offensive tackle in the class. Mims attended Bleckley County High School in Georgia. In high school, he was selected to the All-USA First Team, as well as being selected to his high school class’s Dream Team. Being a consensus 5-star recruit in the south, it was easy to pinpoint his recruitment to the SEC. He committed to his home state Georgia Bulldogs over Florida, Auburn, and others.

College: In his first couple of seasons in Athens, Mims has been used in an extremely limited role. His lack of impact is not caused by an inability to contribute, but he is buried behind a talented offensive line that has won back-to-back championships. 2023 is the year that Mims has been slated to show why he was such a highly recruited player in high school. Amarius Mims missed a good chunk of the season in 2023 after suffering an injury in the conference opener and not returning until the conference finale.

Strengths: Mims does an excellent job of keeping his shoulders square and not letting the rusher stack and set the edge. Mims consistently maintains leverage with excellent pad level and active hands. Mims has length that makes it difficult for any defender to shed blocks. He has a strong grip that goes together with his length to make himself a nearly impenetrable force at the tackle position. Mims has a high football IQ, he is able to recognize and react to different stunts or twists along the line. Mims moves well for such a large figure; he is effective in full slide schemes or pulls where he has to move across the hash marks to execute a blocking assignment. His size and movement skills project him as a gap rushing offensive tackle. He can create those gaps and move to the second and third levels of the defense. These same traits also make him a candidate for positional versatility. He projects as either a right or left tackle, despite being a right tackle at Georgia.

Weaknesses: Mims is a better run blocker than he is a pass protector. His footwork in pass protection leaves much to be desired. His eagerness to get out and create gaps can backfire as he moves too quickly to the next level of the defense at times.

Conclusion: Amarius Mims is another dominant SEC offensive tackle who has all the tools to be a brick wall at the next level. His ability to play on either side of the line will make him a hot commodity in the draft.
