Andrew Vorhees Scouting Report

Position: IOL
HT: 6’6
WT: 320 lbs
Sideline Prospect Ranking: #27
Andrew Vorhees is a physical and solid interior lineman that is effective in multiple schemes. Vorhees is a 5th year senior who had to redshirt in 2019 due to an ankle injury suffered in the second week of the season. Throughout his years at USC, Vorhees has gotten significant reps at every position on the line except for Center. He is at his best at either guard spot, more so the left side, but he can also play either tackle spot if there are any last minute injuries that cause a shuffling of the line. Vorhees excels on the run game where he has a strong and firm anchor that stalls power rushes and allows Vorhees to move up into the second level. Vorhees also does well against the speed and finesse rushers as he is able to open up and widen his frame. Vorhees is exceptional when it comes to being able to reach that second level, he is often the lead blocker on that USC offensive line. He is always looking for work and climbs up the field to lead the running game. While he doesn’t have long arms, it is not a huge deficiency because he is an interior lineman. He does a great job of opening his arms and shoulders to block and absorb rushes. Vorhees is one of the strongest players in the draft, demonstrating great core strength when he sets his feet to keep rushers from pushing him back. He also has great grip strength which he uses to latch onto rushers and move them back or stall their momentum. According to USC’s strength coach, Bennie Wylie, Vorhees can bench 225 lbs for 40 reps. Impressive strength from the 5th year senior.
However, no prospect is perfect. Vorhees needs to work on his pad level. With his height at an interior spot, he needs to be able to get lower and create more leverage. He often is sloppy with hands at the first and second level as he will engage with the defenders’ shoulders more often than you’d like.
If Vorhees can work on his hands and placement he will be an impact player immediately. I expect Vorhees to immediately come into an organization and be the preferred starter at left guard, but if injuries happen, he can plug in anywhere in a pinch.
Note: Unfortunately, Andrew Vorhees tore his ACL during his athletic testing at the NFL Draft Combine. He will likely be out for most, if not all, of what was expected to be his rookie season. However, despite tearing his ACL the day before, Vorhees came in on crutches and put up the best numbers for the bench press out of anyone else at the combine.
