School: Notre Dame

Class: Redshirt Senior

Position: CB

HT: 6’3

WT: 202 lbs

Sideline Prospect Ranking: #70

Background: Cam Hart was a wide receiver recruit out of Baltimore, Maryland. He was a 3-star prospect that was also nationally recognized as a top 100 wide receiver in his class. Hart played on both sides of the ball and came out of high school with the potential to play either cornerback or wide receiver at the next level. He played for Good Counsel High School. He was a star on both sides of the ball and an all-district member as a senior wide receiver. Hart chose to commit to the prestigious Notre Dame over Boston College, Georgia Tech, and Indiana.

College: Unfortunately, as Hart saw an increase in usage as a true freshman, he was injured and missed most of the season. He recorded a sack in his collegiate debut, sparking serious excitement about his ability as a defender. His breakout season came as a junior in 2021. He registered 9 pass breakups and 2 interceptions. Hart was a 2021 All-Independent second team player. Throughout the final two seasons of his career at Notre Dame, he was the shut down corner who started almost every game. He was a team captain and an All-Independent Team member.

Strengths: Hart’s size is a tremendous plus for a team looking to get a cornerback that can handle his own on any side of the field. He also has the ever so important 32+ inch arms. He uses his length to get his hands on the football or jam receivers at the line of scrimmage. This size does not slow Hart down either, as he was able to go stride for stride with some of the fastest receivers in the country. Hart is a fluid mover who can transition from backpedal to sprint in the blink of an eye. He transitions without losing any ground on his man. While Hart is rarely caught out of position, his athleticism and quality decision making (or football IQ) serve him well to recover in the best way possible. Whether it be meeting the receiver at the catch point or handing off the route to a deep safety, Hart can do it all without any hesitation. When defending the run, Hart is a willing tackler and a rare cornerback who can bring down the ball carrier on his own in the open field.

Weaknesses: Hart does not get low enough in his back pedal. This forces him to be in a state of panic or forced to recover more times than he should. Hart also can be deceived by double moves and late hands. He needs to improve on how quickly he gets his head around to look at the football rather than reading the wide receiver’s hands and eyes.

Conclusion: Cam Hart has all the size and skills in order to be a quality NFL cornerback. He will need to work on some mental areas of his game, which is doable. All of his plus traits are easily translatable to NFL football.
