Background: Cobee Bryant was a 3-star cornerback in the class of 2020 out of Evergreen, Alabama. Bryant was a top 30 player in the state and a top 75 cornerback nationally. Cobee played for Hillcrest High School in Alabama and earned all-state honors as a sophomore, junior, and senior. In 2019, Bryant competed in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game. He was a top contributor on a Hillcrest team that won the 2017 state championship. Cobee also played basketball, baseball, and competed in track. He was an all-region basketball player for Hillcrest. Cobee Bryant committed to Kansas over Tennessee, Indiana, Ole Miss, and others.
College: Bryant started 7 games as a true freshman in 2021. He recorded 2 interceptions and a pass breakup that season. In 2022, Bryant recorded 9 pass breakups and 3 interceptions. He earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors that season. In 2023, he was named All-Big 12 First Team after snagging 4 picks and totaling 5 pass breakups. He was also an effective blitzer, recording 5 TFLs and a sack. He was a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2024. He was also an All-American after grabbing 4 picks and 7 pass breakups.
Strengths: Cobee Bryant is a ball-hawking cornerback who finds a way to make plenty of plays on the football. He has great zone coverage instincts to position himself at or around the football. He has undisputable ball production throughout his time at Kansas. He has elite instincts. Bryant shows an ability to bait quarterbacks into making throws to seemingly open windows before he cuts the ball off to get his hands on it. He has noticeable closing speed. When playing deep, he does well to trigger downhill on the underneath throws or even as a run defender. His length and athleticism creates for an extremely rangy defender. He covers a larger portion of the field than the average cornerback. Bryant loves getting involved in the running game. No matter where he is on the field, he can be seen getting into the mix to make a tackle. Not only does he attempt to make tackles, but he takes pride in finishing plays with a certain emphasis.
Weaknesses: Cobee Bryant is a light player who may not be suited for man coverage in the NFL. He is a scheme specific defender. His transitions from backpedal to sprint are rocky as he mistimes when he should open his hips. He allows receivers to come across his body to create separation too often. With the elite ball production comes aggression in the deep areas of the field. If Bryant thinks he even has a sliver of hope to make a play on the football, he goes for it. This mentality has left him out of position and vulnerable on numerous reps.
Conclusion: Cobee Bryant should be expected to enter the NFL and create splash plays immediately. He has a nose for the football and as a zone coverage cornerback, he could even be seen as a potential safety in the NFL.
