School: LSU

Class: Junior

Position: OT

HT: 6’6

WT: 322 lbs

Background: Emery Jones Jr. was a 4-star offensive lineman and top 100 player in the class of 2022. Jones is from Baton Rouge, LA and played his football for Catholic High School. Jones committed to LSU over other SEC programs such as Tennessee, Arkansas, and Alabama.

College: Jones has been a starter ever since he stepped foot on campus, starting in 12 games as a true freshman. He was a Freshman All-American selection. Jones was Second Team All-SEC as a sophomore in 2023 as well. As a junior in 2024, Jones was once again named a Second Team All-SEC selection. A truly dominant career at LSU was littered with awards for Jones.

Strengths: Emery Jones Jr. is a technical offensive tackle with size to take on the power rushers of the NFL, but the patience and technique to handle speed rushers. Jones sits back and lets the game come to him. He uses his length functionally to keep defenders at bay. His high football IQ allows him to have that patience. He is not over eager to get physical in the phone booth. He stays on his foundation which allows him to easily absorb rushes off the edge. Jones has a strong grip, once he gets his hands under the pads of the defender. In the run game, Jones shoots out of his stance and seeks out assignments. He finishes at the first level with force before quickly moving to a second level assignment. Despite having such a large frame, Jones moves well. He has solid flexibility and bend to move and keep up with defenders. His first contact with the defender is strong enough to knock them off the rush.

Weaknesses: Jones can tend to get heavy-footed in pass protection. He tends to get beat with a quick first step and speed around the edge. His footwork is just not where it needs to be for an NFL offensive tackle, which will cost his team if he is the blindside blocker. Jones has a tendency to not bend his knees enough in pass protection, resulting in his initial punch being too high and losing the leverage battle.

Conclusion: Emery Jones Jr. needs to polish his game a bit. He has strengths in technique but can also revert to a lazy style of play in certain pass protection sets. However, he has the measurables to be dominant in all phases of the game. He will be a developmental offensive tackle who won’t make an all-pro right away, but there is a path to him reaching that level.
