Sideline Prospect Ranking: #85

Background: Fabien Lovett was a top 10 player in the state of Mississippi. He was also a top 15 strongside defensive end in the country. Fabien is from Vicksburg, Mississippi and played for Olive Branch High School. He earned a 4 star rating as one of the best defensive linemen in the class. He helped Olive Branch to the semifinals of the 5A state playoffs. Lovett played in the Alabama-Mississippi All Star Game. Fabian Lovett chose Mississippi State out of high school instead of Ole Miss, Alabama, and others.

College: In two seasons at Mississippi State, Lovett played in 15 games and started 13. All of those starts came in 2019 after he redshirted in 2018. Fabien transferred to Florida State ahead of the 2020 season. As a junior in 2021, Lovett was All-ACC honorable mention as he finally broke out for the Seminoles. He became a stable force on the interior of the Seminoles’ defensive line. Multiple ACC Honor Roll selection and honorable mention.

Strengths: Lovett is excellent at breaking down blocks and shedding them before an offensive lineman is able to get a strong grip on him. He keeps his hands active. They are violent and heavy enough to keep any opponent from containing him. His strength does not take away from how quick he is in the phone booth. He has a great speed to power ability that helps him generate power out of his stance. Lovett consistently does well to win the leverage battle and plays with a high football IQ. He never stops churning his legs, constantly pushing himself forward to muddy the pocket.

Weaknesses: Lovett is a force in the run game, but he lacks plenty as a pass rusher. Lovett does not have desirable flexibility or movement skills for a 3 tech. He cannot change directions quickly and it causes him to lose a step in the rush.

Conclusion: Fabian Lovett projects solely as a 1 tech in the NFL as a player who is on the field for every clear running play, but may be on the sidelines for those big passing downs. While he is not at all versatile, he is effective as a pass rusher.
