Jaelyn Duncan was a 4-star recruit out of Owings, Maryland. Duncan was a consensus top-300 player and attended St Frances Academy for his high school football. As a standout player in high school, Duncan had offers from Florida, LSU, and Michigan amongst others, but ultimately chose to stay home and committed to play for Maryland. Jaelyn Duncan is a big athletic OT that certainly fits the bill when it comes to size at the position. His long arms and ability to move at his size help him keep defenders back for a significant amount of the play. His initial punch and hand movement is his greatest asset as he asserts dominance on every snap with his upper half. Duncan is able to move in any direction at a high speed to target defenders downfield or help with assignments at the line of scrimmage. Duncan also plays on a Maryland Terps offense that is extremely versatile and scheme transcendent, which has given him a variety of different experiences in his college career.
However, Duncan has a lot of areas that need improvement in order for him to be a franchise Left Tackle at the next level. While he is fast for his size, he doesn’t move well laterally. If a defender beats him and gains leverage on his outside shoulder, Duncan has to turn around and try to run off the defender instead of moving laterally while keeping the rusher in front of his chest. Duncan relies on his first punch and speed too much and often gets beat to the outside. In the run game, Duncan moves to the 2nd level well, but he often looks lost once he gets there and takes himself out of the play.
