Jordan Travis Scouting Report
By: Michael Higgins
School: Florida State
Class: Redshirt Senior
Position: QB
HT: 6’1
WT: 200 lbs
Sideline Prospect Ranking: #97
Background: Jordan Travis was a consensus 3-star dual-threat quarterback. His brother, Devon, played baseball for Florida State and played for the Toronto Blue Jays for 4 seasons. Jordan is from West Palm Beach, Florida and attended The Benjamin School. He was named Palm Beach Player of the Year as a senior. He was able to lead The Benjamin School to the state playoffs as one of the most productive dual-threat quarterbacks in the state. Jordan Travis enrolled at Louisville out of high school over North Carolina and Georgia.
College: Travis was used minimally at Louisville as a backup quarterback. After not getting the opportunity and apparently losing the quarterback battle at Louisville, Jordan transferred to Florida State. Jordan really showed what he could bring to the Seminoles’ offense in his first two seasons there, but it was not until 2021 that he took his game to the next level. He was 2nd Team All-ACC in 2022 and passed for well over 3,000 yards.
Strengths: Jordan Travis is one of the better quarterbacks in the class, primarily due to the unteachable intangibles that he possesses in his game. The mental side of Travis’ game is noticeably stronger than most of his counterparts. He is a leader, it is notable on the tape, in interviews, and his leadership is spoken of by teammates and coaches. The mental fortitude of Jordan Travis shows in his general football IQ and pocket presence. He has great poise in the pocket and he is able to maneuver within the pocket at an elite level. He can manipulate the pocket and by himself time. He does not prematurely abandon the pocket either, waiting until he sees an opportunity to gain chunk yardage or until he has no other choice. Travis is a great play action passer and is able to get the ball out quickly. He has a quick release and elite throwing mechanics, when all of these are put together, it is nearly impossible to get consistent pressure on him. Travis can throw the ball with velocity, as well as putting a bit more touch on it at times.
Weaknesses: The velocity does take a hit the further that Travis throws the ball. He cannot throw the ball on a rope 25+ yards down the field like some elite arm talents can. He has high football IQ, but he does not show a knowledge of his limits and tries to fit the football into tight windows, something that his lack of velocity does not excel at. He puts the ball in harm's way and can be prone to turnover worthy plays at times.
Conclusion: Jordan Travis is a top quarterback in the class and demonstrates intangibles that can take him far at the professional level. He has to be able to come to terms with his limitations in order to work around them and adjust his game.
