Background: Kobe Hudson was a 4-star and top 150 overall player out of Pine Mountain, Georgia. Hudson played for Troup County High School as a quarterback and wide receiver, winning Player of the Year as a junior quarterback. Hudson was also a proficient basketball player for Troup County. Hudson chose to play for Auburn instead of Michigan, Alabama, and Florida State.
College: By Hudson’s sophomore season for the Tigers in 2021, he was the team’s leading receiver with 580 yards. Hudson transferred to UCF ahead of the 2022 campaign. In his first season with the team, Hudson had 641 yards and 7 touchdowns. Hudson was an All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2023 after posting 44 receptions for 900 yards and 8 touchdowns. Hudson was just as consistent in 2024, recording 770 yards receiving.
Strengths: Kobe Hudson is a wide receiver with ideal size. Hudson can be moved all over the offense, whether it be in the slot or on the boundary, Hudson can work his way open. UCF ran a very run heavy offense that did not utilize Hudson’s full skillset, but he was still able to make a significant impact. Hudson has great ball tracking skills in the deep areas. He shows late hands to keep the cornerback guessing and is a reliable target to consistently haul in the football. Hudson is a good route runner in the short and intermediate areas of the field, getting in and out of breaks efficiently. He has crisp cuts to create maximum separation. Hudson gets to his top speed quickly on deep routes. He stacks cornerbacks consistently in order to give himself the best chance to win a 50/50 ball. Hudson displays excellent body control as he is able to contort his body in such strange angles to make a play.
Weaknesses: While Hudson gets to his top speed quickly, that speed is not all that impressive. Hudson does not have elite speed on the field and his combine athletic testing backed that up. He will have to win his reps with technique and route running. When Hudson does get the football, he is not a huge threat to gash defenses after the catch.
Conclusion: Kobe Hudson can be a nice depth piece in the NFL with a high floor but low ceiling. Hudson is an excellent blocker with a high motor. He has been a leader of the UCF offense for the past few seasons. His blocking gives him special teams upside, leading to him being more than just a roster candidate.
