Background: Mike Green was actually recruited out of high school as a wide receiver. Green was a 3-star wide receiver out of Williamsburg, Virginia. Green was a top 100 wide receiver and top 15 player in Virginia in the class of 2021. Mike Green chose to play for Virginia over East Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech.

College: Green redshirted in his only season as a Cavalier before transferring to Marshall. Green finished the 2023 season with Marshall with 9 TFLs and 4.5 sacks. In 2024, Mike Green led all of FBS with 17 sacks. This was also enough to set a Sun Belt Conference record. Along with the sacks, Green had 22.5 TFLs. Green was a First Team All-Sun Belt and First Team All-American.

Strengths: Mike Green skyrocketed up NFL Draft boards by leading the country in sacks in 2024. He combines size with speed and strength to win in a variety of ways. That combination provides for a rare explosiveness in the phone booth that is simply unstoppable. Green has a devastating spin move that can leave offensive tackles with their feet tied and off balance. Green has excellent bend with hip and ankle flexion around the edge to get low and win with elusiveness and speed. Along with his infamous spin move, he does have other moves that he goes to in order to win his rushes or counter rushes. He comes into each rush with a thorough plan and executes consistently. When engaged at the point of attack, Green possesses active hands that carry a heaviness and violence to quickly deconstruct blocks. Green shows a willingness to get involved in the run game. He loves getting his hands dirty and takes just as much pride in a TFL as he does in a sack.

Weaknesses: While Green presents decent size, he lacks elite length. He can get outworked and bullied by the bigger and longer offensive tackles at times. He will need to make up for a lack of length by adding more power to his game to hold up at the point of attack and bull rush opponents. Green is susceptible to play action and falls victim to a fake far too frequently.

Conclusion: Overall, Mike Green is a fascinating player who dominated at the collegiate level. He brings a level of pass rushing upside that would classify him as a superstar if his full potential is reached. He is an elite run defending edge rusher and has a never-ending willingness to work.
