Background: Will Campbell is a former 4-star and top 100 player in the 2022 class. Out of Monroe, Louisiana, Campbell played for Neville High School. After being a 4-year starter and all-state selection in high school, he participated in the Under Armour All-American Game. Campbell chose to stay home and play for LSU over Alabama, Arkansas, and Notre Dame.
College: Campbell was recognized as a starter immediately when he got on campus. Campbell was the LSU offensive lineman of the year, Second Team All-SEC, and a Freshman All-American. It was more of the same in 2023 for Campbell after earning another All-SEC nod. In 2024, Campbell received the illustrious #7, given to those elite offensive players in LSU history.
Strengths: Campbell is a mammoth of an offensive tackle who has provided consistent dominance for his entire career. Campbell is not over eager to make first contact and instead sets his anchor, remains patient, and absorbs contact. His full-body strength allows him to not rely on getting that first punch and instead can read and react. His footwork is elite as he can counter a quick first step and speed off the edge with great technique. Even when he is beaten, the speed for his frame and the footwork allows him to work back and recover before the play is blown up. Campbell gets to the second level of the defense with ease and intent. Will is a people mover in the run game, displacing defenders and creating gaps for the ball carrier. Campbell handles twists well due to his patience and letting plays develop in front of him.
Weaknesses: Campbell has shorter arms than you see in most offensive tackles in the NFL. He could be a candidate to kick inside to guard if he struggles or goes to a team with solidified offensive tackles. While Campbell has a large frame, he sometimes does not get low enough in his stance, leaving him susceptible to being beat with speed around the edge.
Conclusion: Will Campbell is a tremendous offensive tackle who can not only be a star, but he can be a leader for any team. He has excellent technique and is the ideal size for the position. Campbell is not just technical as a run blocker but he is also a mauler. He seeks out that violence to go make a play down the field. Campbell will be an instant starter for whatever team takes him.
