Background: Xavier Restrepo was a 3-star athlete out of Deerfield Beach, Florida. FFor Deerfield Beach High School, Restrepo was a top 50 player in the state of Florida and a top 50 athlete in the country for the class of 2020. Restrepo played both defensive back and wide receiver for Deerfield Beach. Restrepo stayed home and played for Miami over Boston College, Michigan, and others.
College: Restrepo saw the field as a freshman in 2020 but it wasn’t until 2021 that Xavier made a real impact on the Hurricanes’ offense. In 2021, he recorded 24 receptions for 373 yards and 2 touchdowns. By 2023, Xavier Restrepo was one of the better receivers in the country. After the 2023 campaign, Restrepo was named a First Team All-ACC member. In 2024, Restrepo was a consensus First Team All-American after recording 69 receptions for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Strengths: Xavier Restrepo is a crafty slot receiver with the short area quickness to create separation. Restrepo is a creative route runner who has numerous ways of getting open. Xavier is able to get in and out of his breaks so efficiently, instantly putting cornerbacks on their toes. He is a methodical route runner who has sharp cuts and leverages the cornerback’s body to his advantage. Restrepo is a killer in between the hashmarks, finding open space to lurk and wait for the football to come his way. Xavier has soft hands to consistently bring in the football. He is allergic to drops. By creating separation near the line of scrimmage, Restrepo is able to then attack the next levels of the defense to make an explosive play. He is strong despite being undersized; he can pick on the smaller nickels in the NFL. With the ball in his hands, Restrepo can be elusive and difficult for defenses to track down.
Weaknesses: Restrepo’s main concern is his lack of size and speed. These are the two main things that teams look for at the wide receiver position and he has neither. He ran a 4.83 40-yard dash at the Miami Pro Day. Uninspiring is an understatement. His lack of size will restrict him to playing strictly in the slot. He is also a liability as a run blocker and will likely have to be on the sideline for a majority of those obvious running downs.
Conclusion: Xavier Restrepo can carve out a role as a sneaky and elusive receiver who can make something out of nothing. He is a special route runner who can provide a high floor for an offense. He has physical limitations, likely preventing him from being the main weapon on an offense, but he can still contribute.
