Bryan Bresee is an excellent pass rusher from the 3-tech position. Oftentimes drawing multiple blockers, Bresee controls the entire line of scrimmage from the interior. His ability to execute stunts and twists make him unpredictable for offensive linemen. These linemen are constantly pushed back on their heels and into uncomfortable positions due to Bresee’s strength. Every chance that Bresee has been presented with so far at Clemson he has capitalized on. While he does have talented running mates with him on that defense to make his job a bit easier, Bresee may be the most effective pass rusher out of the group. His ability to draw double teams allows for his teammates to work on 1-on-1 matchups. After playing in only four games during the 2021 season due to a torn ACL, he has bounced back and made it seem effortless in doing so. He has asserted himself as one of the best interior defensive linemen in the draft class. While the risk of re-injury may worry teams, the resiliency that Bresee has displayed in order to respond the way he has this season is just as noteable.

In terms of areas of improvement for Bresee, the one thing that stands out on film is the ability to defend the run. The interior defensive linemen need to be those anchors in the run game that are able to completely stuff the run at the line of scrimmage. He has not been the most productive in stuffing the run and has not shown the ability to get the ball carrier in the backfield as frequently as scouts may want. An NFL team is going to want a 3-tech that can control gaps and run fits in order to make sure that offensive linemen don’t make their way to the second level of the defense. Bresee has trouble in this regard when offenses single him out in the run to take him out of the play. He could improve by remaining at a low pad level and using his size to leverage blockers.

Bryan Bresee has all of the tools to be a successful 3-tech in the NFL. Being able to be an effective pass rusher from the interior is a huge strength that few interior defensive linemen have when coming out of college. If he can pair his elite level pass rushing ability with a solid run defense, he will be more than effective at the next level.
