Tyree Wilson is a physical freak on the defensive edge. He has great strength and physical tools that he uses well. Wilson was able to line up in both a 3-point stance and a 2-point stance, but I believe he will be better suited as a 3-4 Defensive End with his hand in the dirt at the next level. He has rare strength and power at the line and can split double teams with relative ease. Wilson also has solid lateral quickness that allows him to change direction and adapt to the play at the line of scrimmage. He utilizes an excellent conversion of speed-to-power that knocks offensive linemen back on their heels. He is also just as good of a run defender as he is a pass rusher, he profiles as an every down edge rusher for the next level. Wilson is best used when he is able to gain momentum and use that to bull rush through defenders with his weight and speed. Tyree has a unique ability to shed blocks at the line and always takes good angles when attacking the line of scrimmage.

Wilson’s weaknesses and areas of improvement come on the technical side of his game. His pass rush moves only consist of the Bull rush and relying on his strength to overpower inferior linemen. He will need to widen his range of pass rush moves to succeed against the best offensive linemen at the next level. Wilson doesn’t have the straight line speed to succeed standing up at the line of scrimmage in an even front. He will need to be an odd front defensive end. He also needs to use his leverage better as he often goes too high on the pads of offensive linemen, resulting in him being pushed back and being taken out of the play. Luckily for Wilson, these are fixable issues that often can be worked out with coaching. Ultimately, his place in this draft will have to do with what position different teams think he will fit best in.

Tyree Wilson’s game is undeniably at the top tier for this draft class. His size and movement ability is something that is not normal at the position. His game will translate to the next level without a doubt, it is just a question of where he will play on the NFL field. Do teams want him as a traditional, hand in the dirt, defensive end? Or do they see him as more of a stand up rusher who stays primarily in a two-point stance? Either way, he will find success.
