By: Michael Higgins
School: Oregon
Class: Junior
Position: CB
HT: 6’3
WT: 195 lbs
Sideline Prospect Ranking: #42
Background: Khyree Jackson was an unranked cornerback in high school out of East Marlboro, Maryland. He went to Wise High School in Maryland. He had an impressive high school career for a local kid but was not quite ready for FBS football. After high school, Jackson went the JUCO route at Fort Scott Community College.
College: At Fort Scott, Jackson became one of the best JUCO players in the nation. The 2019 season was enough to prepare Khyree for the big lights of SEC football. He signed with Alabama over offers from Oregon, Auburn, and others. Jackson had to sit out the 2020 season because of transfer rules. He finally got on the field for the Crimson Tide in the 2021 season. He was a solid depth piece at cornerback and also played on special teams. 2022 was a similar season to the previous year as he was buried in a stacked secondary. He got a start in 2022 but never managed to stick in that role. Jackson transferred to Oregon in hopes of starting more games and seeing more defensive snaps. Jackson tallied 8 pass breakups and 3 interceptions as a junior for Oregon in 2023.
Strengths: Khyree Jackson is a long, athletic, and physical cornerback. He loves playing with his head down, trying to physically impose his will. Jackson is a willing tackler who has a knack for getting to the ball carrier in the run game. He is excellent at shedding wide receiver blocks with his long arms in order to go make a tackle. Jackson profiles as a man corner who can stick to the receiver’s inside hip without getting stacked. Jackson is fast, his long strides allow for both excellent straight-line speed and quick recovery at the break of the receiver’s route. Jackson has loose hips that are shown when transitioning out of his backfield. His long arms allow him to get his fingers on any ball thrown his way. He has excellent ball skills and is able to get his head around in time to track the ball. He does not get fooled by late hands and does not play the receiver at the catch point; he plays the ball.
Weaknesses: Khyree does tend to struggle in zone coverage where he has to read the quarterback and have a bit more anticipation. He does not read the offense quick enough to close in on the intended target quick enough to make a play when playing soft coverage.
Conclusion: Khyree Jackson has all the traits to be a CB1 at the next level. His size and physicality can match him with any of the typical X Receivers in the NFL He will see the field from Day 1 as a professional and will make an instant impact if put in the right scheme.
