Keion White was originally given a 2-star recruiting ranking out of Garner High School in Garner, North Carolina. In high school, White played defensive end, but he was primarily a tight end. Committed to Old Dominion University, White was not sought after by Power 5 schools or even most Group of 5 schools. After spending his first collegiate season at tight end, White made the transition to the defensive side of the ball and committed to being a defensive end. He made this transition in order to earn more reps and make more of an impact on his team. In terms of his play on the field, White had modest production in every season leading up to 2022. His 2022 season was when everything changed for him. Keion White had a breakout year and his draft stock skyrocketed. Every statistical category had improved for white, from advanced statistics to volume stats.

White displayed what he could do for an NFL team at the next level on a consistent basis. Keion White has versatility on the line, Georgia Tech consistently moved him around depending on the matchup. He lined up anywhere from the run-stuffing 1-technique, to all the way on the edge at the 5-technique. White’s history at different positions shows in his game, he is naturally an insanely athletic player. He explodes into the point of attack and uses his strength to knock the linemen off their anchor. He has a deep bag of pass-rushing moves in his repertoire that he executes at a high level, impressive given his short time at the position. Keion White put up a great 2022 season, but he is still new to the position. So while he has become a top prospect in the draft, there is still so much potential for White to blossom into an even better player. He is a physical player with violent and active hands. His strength shows flashes when using his hand with chops and swim moves to beat blockers either in the gaps or off the edge. Keion White carries his weight well, he is quite fast for his size which allows him to chase down even the most elusive quarterbacks. At the point of attack, White is playing a game of chess with the lineman. He does not put himself in any position to not be able to counter whatever his opponent does.

Keion White does need to improve upon his functional strength. He is strong and shows it in-game, but not on a consistent basis. He too often lets blockers get into his pads and take any leverage away from him. White may also be thought of as a 3-tech by some teams as he does not have superb length to succeed on the edge, but he has great length and overall size to man the interior of the line. White also needs to play with a higher sense of urgency. One of the first things heard about White is his high motor, but he seems to take a lot of plays off. To his credit, if he is in the area, he’ll turn it up a notch. However, if he deems himself to be out of the play, then he stops playing.

Keion White is an intriguing prospect that can surely be molded into a great starter. His positional versatility will allow teams to get creative with how they use him. He just needs to improve upon generating the strength he already possesses in a more functional way. White will be used in a rotational role until he finds his niche in the NFL, but expect him to make splashes in the opportunities he is given.
